Steal This is three things great brands do well, why each one works, and how to use it on your store.
Magic Mind: three words that end the argument

On the product page for its Original shot, Magic Mind writes its guarantee like this: "Try Magic Mind for 100 days. If your mental performance doesn't noticeably improve, we'll refund your purchase completely. No return necessary."1
Why it works: A guarantee that asks for the product back hands the shopper a chore right when they're deciding. "No return necessary" takes the chore away, and it's the last thing they read.
Steal this: Read the last sentence of your guarantee. If it asks the customer to do something, rewrite it so it takes a step away, and put it right next to Add to cart.

David: a chart with the rivals' names on it

David's homepage compares its bars with Built Puff and Barebells. The footnote names both and spells out the math for each, down to "Built Puff bars contain 140-160 calories, 6-8g sugar, 15-17g protein." On Oct 11, the chart put David's Gold bar at 75% of calories from protein, next to 49% for Built Puff and 40% for Barebells.2
Why it works: Shoppers in the protein aisle already compare bars, so David runs the comparison for them and wins on one number. It only works because the footnote shows its math.
Steal this: Find the one number you win on and show it next to the brands your buyers already weigh you against, with the sources in the footnote. If the math doesn't hold up line by line, don't run it.

Made In: a headline only they can say

Made In's homepage opens with "The Cookware Chefs Actually Use™", with "Actually" in italics. Further down the page it backs that up: "Relied On Every Night By Over 4,000 Chef Customers."3
Why it works: Every cookware brand says premium. Made In makes a claim a competitor can't borrow, then spends the rest of the page proving it.
Steal this: Write the one headline a competitor couldn't put on their homepage without lying, then put the proof for it right under the fold.
